The TAESS00015 Enterprise Trainer and Assessor Skill Set was developed for persons wishing to deliver nationally recognised training in TAFE’s, Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s), and private training companies.

While people in these roles are not formal trainers and assessors, they are still able to train under the supervision of a TAE-qualified trainer.

As stated in ASQA’s Standards for RTO’s 2015, a person that does not hold the required competencies of a qualified trainer and assessor,

  • must be formally supervised
  • must not determine assessment outcomes
  • must have current industry skills and knowledge
  • must hold the applicable Skill Set

The TAESS00015 Skill Set is delivered as a distance learning course, and as such, you will need access to a computer that has Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader, and the internet.  You will also need to record yourself, using a recording device such as a webcam or smart phone, completing some assessment activities.

The TAEASS402 Assess competence unit requires you to undertake assessments under the supervision of a qualified trainer / assessor.  You can do this by either:

  • Attending one of RAM’s one-day workshops; or
  • Completing them in a workplace, subject to the following:
    • You must have access to someone who possesses either the TAE50111/TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or the TAE50211/TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development or (3) a higher level qualification in adult education, and is willing to supervise you undertaking these assessment activities.  This person must be able to provide a copy of:
      • evidence of current industry skills directly relevant to assessments,
      • have current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning,
      • have undertaken recent professional development in the fields of the knowledge and practice of competency based training and assessment.
      • their relevant qualification
    • You must have access to 8 real candidates within the vocational education and training (VET) context who are willing for you to undertake assessments of them.
  • Record yourself or live stream with a RAM trainer, following the above requirements

You will be given access to the course materials electronically (or you have the option to have them printed and posted to you for an additional cost of just $20), as well as:

  • email and phone support from a dedicated trainer
  • recorded tutorials to guide you through the assessments
  • private Facebook group for TAE distance learning students for additional support
  • private Facebook group for TAE graduates

How long will it take me to complete the Assessor Skill Set?

Everyone is different.  It will depend on what other commitments you have, eg work/study/family, your training experience, and your discipline with home studies.  There is a small amount of pre-course work to do, prior to attending the classroom component, as well as some post-course work.  You have up to 12 months to complete and submit your assessments, however, given the Skill Set is only 3 units of competency, most will finish in a much quicker timeframe.

What resources will I need in order to complete this course?

You will need a computer at home, with access to Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, the internet, and ideally a printer.

Do you give deadline extensions?

The Assessor Skill Set is only 3 units of competency, so you shouldn’t need an extension to the 12 months allocated – however, there are occasions where a student’s personal circumstances may cause them unavoidable delays.  Due to updates to our assessment materials, as well as to training packages in general, we can only offer extensions of 1 month at a time.  Please note, there is no guarantee that we will be able to offer an extension, however we are more than happy to do so, if able to.

The first extension is free of charge.  Any further extensions requested, will incur a re-enrolment fee of between $395 and $595, dependent on whether a whole new set of course materials are required to be printed for you.  In some instances, this may mean that you will need to re-do parts, or all, of your assessment tasks, using the new materials.
